Poker Characters: the Clueless One

Posted on Wednesday 21 October 2009

From time to time over any series of poker sessions in a popular casino, you are likely to run into the kind of player who is so new to the game that he has absolutely no idea what’s going on. He might be drunk, or tired, or a tourist who just wandered in not knowing the difference from the poker table and the roulette wheel, but in online poker he’s almost like an infant.

He doesn’t know when to post blinds. He might not even know what blinds are. The dealer is always having to remind him when to act. He bets out less than the minimum constantly. He’ll say “Raise” when no one has bet in front of him. Really, he’s just fumbling in the dark waiting for someone to take his chips from him so he can get up again and leave the casino.

Against these types of players it can be difficult to know where he is at, as he will play most all hands the same. Often he’ll just call or make min bets whether he has a set or a high card, mainly because he doesn’t know much of a difference between what is what. These players will go broke, and against them it is best to just play standard poker, and snatch him up when you are in the right spot at the right time.
