Highest Rated Playstation 2 Games

Posted on Wednesday 2 December 2009

It’s an old system now, but for those nostalgia fans out there, here are the highest rated Playstation 2 games of all time:

1. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Set in the coked-out 80s, Vice City surrounds the player with pop culture references and fashion from a bygone era.

2. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Following the continuing adventures of Snake, this time we get new controls and improved manipulation of our surroundings. Want to use your enemy as a human shield? You can do it.

3. Resident Evil 4 Collectors Edition - With graphics that push the capabilities of the platform to the breaking point, RE 4 is a breakthrough title which expertly melds the action of a shooter with the creepy atmosphere of a horror title.

4. God of War - As the bloodthirsty Kratos, you roam the land and slaughter all those in your path. Whether you’re ripping a man in half or folding his spine across your knee, God of War lives up to its name in the bloodletting department. And don’t forget about the excellent soundtrack, marvelous cut scenes, and hate-fueled storyline.

5. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - From Rock Star Games, GTA once again breaks new ground and continues to evolve as a franchise. You control Carl Johnson as he mountain bikes, skydives, dates women, and works out in the fictional California city of San Andreas. Oh, and there’s also a ton of gunfights and car chases to satisfy even the most finicky gamers.

6. Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal - A masterful action/platform game from the boys over at Insomniac Games. The next title in the series offers up new foes and returning favorites, as well as superior attention to detail and added depth to the storyline. But the greatest strength of the game comes in the form of its outlandish and addictive battles. You have tons of weapons at your disposal, and every explosion or shot rings out with superior sound.

7. Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 - The definitive Tony Hawk experience, the designers at Neversoft essentially created two groundbreaking skateboard games (broken up into Classic and Story modes) all in one. Whether you’re grinding on the streets of New Orleans or Berlin, your every breathtaking move will be accompanied by music from artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra and Faith No More.

8. Xenosaga: Episode 1 - The designers at Monolith turned out this incredible RPG, and the gaming world has been all the better for it. You get mini-games galore and a vast virtual world that can be explored for hours of enjoyment. Excellent voice work and a sophisticated soundtrack make this title stand out from the crowd, as do the flawless controls and awesome battles.

9. Final Fantasy X - Square Soft continues to revolutionize the gaming experience for fans of the RPG. Featuring an incredible Nobuo Uematsu soundtrack, hours of spoken dialogue, excellent cut scenes, and terrific motion-capture animation, this is a mammoth game that will literally suck you into its complex storyline and virtual world.

10. Madden NFL 2002 - Simply put, this title sets the bar for future sports games.
